How The Twisters Soundtrack Compares To The Original
The Sequel Takes A Different Approach To Twister
2024's Twisters is a sequel to the 1996 movie Twister, which was directed by Jan de Bont. The two films have a lot in common, with the sequel carrying the spiritual essence of the original while giving the nailbiting disaster sequences a visual upgrade thanks to advances in technologies like CGI. However, while the two movies have a lot in common, one area they differ significantly is their approach to the soundtrack and music that underscores the tornado-chasing action.
The Twisters soundtrack has a markedly Americana vibe, with many Country and Western tracks, both new and old, to be found throughout the movie. The soundtrack to 1996's Twister, however, is geared around hard and alternative rock. This was definitely a trend with 1990s movies, and the music in Twister shares more in common with other films of the decade than it does with its 2024 sequel.
Tracks on the Twister soundtrack include original songs from the likes of Van Halen, Tori Amos, the Goo Goo Dolls, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This creates a markedly different vibe from the songs on Twisters, although there are a handful of tracks used in the original that are more in keeping with the music choices made for the follow-up.
Alongside the many prominent hard and alternative rock acts who recorded songs for Twister are a handful of bluegrass and country bands whose songs would fit in nicely with those that featured in Twisters. Outside of Shania Twain, whose song "No One Needs To Know" appeared in both films, the Twister soundtrack also features music by k.d. lang and Alison Krauss & Union Station. While few and far between, these songs used in Twister feel very close to the collection of tracks that make up the Twisters soundtrack - though, for the most part, the two movies are underpinned by an incredibly different musical tone.
