Arlong, known as "Arlong the Saw," is a formidable sawshark fish-man whose name strikes fear in the hearts of many. He served as the ruthless captain of the all fish-man crew, the Arlong Pirates, a notorious group that terrorized the East Blue seas. Interestingly, Arlong had previously been a member of the Sun Pirates.
Intriguingly, Arlong shares a familial connection with the enigmatic Madam Shyarly, as they are half-siblings. His legacy extends beyond his own crew, as he serves as a major source of inspiration for the New Fish-Man Pirates.
Arlong's life took a dramatic turn following the demise of his former captain, Fisher Tiger. He found himself captured and incarcerated in Impel Down, a notorious prison. However, his fortune changed when his comrade Jinbe attained the esteemed title of one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, leading to Arlong's pardon and subsequent release from confinement.
Once free, Arlong set his sights on dominating the East Blue, establishing a stronghold on the Conomi Islands. Here, he and his crew engaged in extortion, exploiting the local population and plunging them into despair. One of his most heinous acts was the cold-blooded murder of Bell-mere, the beloved foster mother of Nami and Nojiko, an act that fueled Nami's desire for vengeance and justice.
Arlong further solidified his grip on Nami by coercing her into becoming his subordinate, exploiting her remarkable cartography skills with the ultimate aim of conquering the entire Blue Sea. Arlong's reign of terror in the East Blue earned him the highest bounty in the region before he was eventually defeated by Monkey D. Luffy.
This confrontation served as the climax of the Arlong Park Arc, with Arlong standing as the primary antagonist of this pivotal storyline.

Arlong’s History
Arlong's early life was marked by abandonment and a sense of displacement within the fish-man society. Abandoned by his father at a young age, he grew up in the Fish-Man District of Fish-Man Island. However, when he was 15, a man claiming to be his father returned and left Arlong with a young girl from a different mother.
During his childhood, Arlong, alongside Jinbe, Macro, and Fisher Tiger, was part of the Fish-Man District community. However, Arlong's behavior and actions were marked by his growing hatred for humans.
He spent his time teaching younger fish-men, including Hody, to despise humans and often harassed Fish-Man Island citizens who befriended humans. This behavior was met with disapproval from Jinbe, who frequently intervened to prevent Arlong from causing trouble.
The turning point in Arlong's life came when Fisher Tiger, a prominent figure in the fish-man community, attacked Mary Geoise, became an enemy of the World Government, and formed the Sun Pirates. Arlong and his crew joined forces with Tiger's crew during this time. The Sun Pirates engaged in battles with the Marines during their adventures, including clashes led by Rear Admiral Kadar.
Arlong's character took a darker turn during this period. He became completely ruthless, even killing a Marine simply because the Marine was human. This brutality led to a discussion between Fisher Tiger, Jinbe, and Arlong, during which Tiger emphasized the importance of not killing humans.
He reminded them that their goal was to free the oppressed, not to become cold-blooded murderers. This conversation left Arlong conflicted and unhappy, as he grappled with the contrast between his hatred for humans and Tiger's more compassionate approach.
When Arlong suggested using ruthless tactics to instill fear in humans, Jinbe reacted by smacking him in the head, illustrating the ongoing conflict within the crew over their approach to humans.
The crew's encounter with Koala, a former slave of Mary Geoise, served as a significant test of Arlong's attitude. The inhabitants of an island asked the Sun Pirates to take Koala since they had no means of returning her to her homeland. However, Arlong's antagonism towards humans, especially Koala, remained evident. He struck Koala for being a human, requiring intervention from Hatchan to restrain him.
While most of the Sun Pirates grew fond of Koala and sought to help her, Arlong remained steadfast in his hatred. He viewed Koala as representative of the cruel humans he despised. Koala was eventually returned to her family on Foolshout Island, and Arlong expressed his belief that she would grow up to be like the humans he hated.
The crew's fortunes took a tragic turn when they realized that the citizens of Foolshout Island had betrayed them by summoning the Marines in exchange for ignoring Koala's status as property of the World Nobles. In a battle with the Marines led by Rear Admiral Strawberry, Fisher Tiger sustained severe injuries. Although the Sun Pirates lost their ship, they managed to steal a Marine vessel and escape.
On the stolen Marine ship, the crew attempted to save Tiger's life with a blood transfusion using human blood. However, Tiger adamantly refused the transfusion. He revealed to the crew that he was, in truth, a former slave who had escaped from Mary Geoise.
He explained that his traumatic experiences had left him unable to truly love humans, despite his efforts to fight for fish-man freedom. Tragically, Fisher Tiger succumbed to his injuries and died from blood loss.
Subjugating East Blue
Arlong's arrival on the island that would later become known as Arlong Park marked the beginning of a reign of terror over the region. Cocoyasi Village, the home of Nami, was the first village he targeted. Arlong and his crew, including Hatchan, Chew, and Kuroobi, extorted money from the residents of Cocoyasi Village.
The demands were steep: adults had to pay 100,000 Beli, while children were required to pay 50,000 Beli or face execution by Arlong's men.
Bell-mère, who was Nami's adoptive mother, faced a heartbreaking choice. She could only afford to pay for Nami and Nojiko, her adopted daughters, leaving herself unable to meet the exorbitant demands. In a cruel and tragic turn of events, Arlong shot Bell-mère in front of her children as a brutal example of disobedience.
After collecting the money, Arlong discovered Nami's exceptional talent for creating maps. He saw this as an opportunity to further his goals and forced Nami to join his crew as a mapmaker. Arlong promised Nami that he would free Cocoyasi Village, along with everyone in it, including her sister Nojiko, if she could provide him with 100,000,000 Beli.
Arlong established his stronghold on Cocoyasi Village and exerted control over several smaller villages in the vicinity. He used the materials from his dismantled galleon to construct Arlong Park, an imposing eight-story building that served as his headquarters. From Arlong Park, he aimed to conquer all of East Blue by using Nami's maps, which charted underwater terrain and provided him with a significant advantage in underwater combat.
Arlong Park Arc
Arlong and his crew made their first appearance in the story when Nami returned to Cocoyasi Village after her travels with the Straw Hat Pirates. Arlong Park, the imposing structure that served as the Arlong Pirates' headquarters, was their base of operations.
Nezumi, a Marine, had been bribed by Arlong and was working in cooperation with the fish-man crew.
Zoro found himself in Arlong Park, where he was interrogated by Arlong himself. Zoro openly insulted Arlong, referring to him as a half-fish mutant, and declared that he was searching for a girl. Arlong initially tolerated the insult, giving Zoro a chance to explain himself. During their conversation, Arlong asserted the superiority of fish-men over humans.
However, the situation took a surprising turn when Nami appeared, shocking Zoro. Arlong revealed that Nami was the cartographer for the Arlong Pirates, an exception to his crew's otherwise hostile stance towards humans. Zoro questioned their relationship, and Nami explained that Zoro was merely another victim. Zoro asked Nami if this was her true self, to which she affirmed and stated that she had been with Arlong all along.
Arlong ridiculed Nami as a cold-blooded individual motivated solely by money, much to her displeasure. Zoro, sensing Nami's discomfort, decided to take action. He jumped into a nearby pool, prompting Nami to dive in and save him. Nami then told the fish-men to lock up Zoro, expressing her intent to kill him later.
Shortly afterward, a fish-man informed Arlong that a long-nosed human had escaped. Arlong suspected that the human might be in Cocoyasi Village and decided to head there, claiming that he had business to attend to in the village. Upon arriving in Cocoyasi Village, Arlong began questioning Genzo about the possession of weapons. Genzo, a resident of the village, mentioned that collecting weapons was a hobby of his.
Arlong warned Genzo against possessing weapons, stating that they only brought violence. Arlong also used the opportunity to remind Genzo of the destruction of Gosa Village, emphasizing that it had been the consequence of non-payment of tributes to him and his crew.
Before departing, Arlong instructed the residents of Cocoyasi Village to work diligently to gather money, as the time for tribute was approaching. Given the potential perception of possessing weapons as an act of rebellion against the Arlong Pirates, Arlong decided to make an example out of Genzo, a prominent figure in the village. He planned to execute Genzo to emphasize the supposed inferiority of humans compared to fish-men.
As Arlong was about to deliver the final blow to Genzo, a sudden explosion struck him. It was Usopp, who had targeted Arlong from a nearby rooftop in an attempt to display bravery. This unexpected attack caused Arlong to go berserk. In retaliation, he destroyed the house where Usopp had been perched. Fearing that their leader might devastate the entire village, the fish-men restrained Arlong and promised to capture Usopp and return him to Arlong Park.
Upon his return to Arlong Park, Arlong discovered that Zoro had defeated all of his men. However, his mood took a positive turn when his subordinates reported that they had captured Usopp.
Meanwhile, a Marine ship under the command of Commodore Pudding Pudding arrived, aiming to liberate the island's inhabitants. The ship fired a cannonball at Arlong Park, which Arlong effortlessly shattered with his teeth. The Arlong Pirates easily dispatched the Marines, with only three of Arlong's officers needed for the task.
The fish-men, bolstered by their physical strength and Nami's cartography skills, believed they could conquer the entire East Blue. Subsequently, Arlong ordered some Marines led by Nezumi to confiscate all the money Nami had collected over the years. After her hard-earned money was taken away, Nami returned to confront Arlong, accusing him of sending the Marines to search for her money.
Arlong, however, denied any involvement in the matter, asserting that he had not broken their agreement. He callously told Nami that if she wanted her village back, she would have to start anew from scratch. In anger and anguish, Nami ran off from Arlong Park as he heartlessly laughed.
As tensions mounted in Cocoyasi Village and the residents were on the brink of rebellion, the situation took a dramatic turn. Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp arrived at Arlong Park and boldly challenged the Arlong Pirates. Luffy made a spectacular entrance by smashing Arlong's face with a powerful punch, declaring war on the fish-men.
In response to this declaration, the fish-men attempted to attack Luffy, but they were swiftly incapacitated by Sanji. Hatchan then summoned Momoo, a giant sea cow, to confront Luffy and his comrades. However, Momoo, remembering his past encounters with Sanji and Luffy, showed fear and reluctance. Arlong threatened Momoo into attacking the Straw Hats, but Luffy, using a new technique, utilized Momoo to blow away Arlong's subordinates.
The officers of the Arlong Pirates, seemingly unperturbed, volunteered to face the Straw Hats in battle. Hatchan launched an attack called Jet Ink, but all the Straw Hats managed to dodge it, except for Luffy, who was left soaked in ink. Seizing the opportunity, Arlong exploited Luffy's vulnerability to seawater by uprooting a portion of the concrete around Luffy's feet and tossing him into a nearby pool.
Following the defeat of Arlong's officers at the hands of the Straw Hats, Sanji and Zoro engaged in combat with Arlong, aiming to buy time for Luffy's rescue. However, they found themselves outmatched by his formidable strength and were easily defeated. Nami arrived at the scene, displaying newfound courage and determination.
She confronted Arlong, vowing to kill him. Arlong, however, mocked her and offered her a choice: become his eternal navigator, sparing the villagers while letting Sanji and Zoro pay for their interference, or have all the villagers killed.
While Zoro continued to distract Arlong, and with some interference from Hatchan, Sanji took action. He dove into the water and released Luffy from his watery prison. Back on solid ground, Arlong ripped off the bandages covering Zoro's chest, revealing the severe wounds he had sustained. Arlong realized that Zoro's injuries were far from ordinary, capable of killing a regular human.
After Luffy escaped from the water and switched places with Zoro, he initiated a series of attacks on Arlong, marking the beginning of their intense battle. However, Luffy's initial strikes proved ineffective against Arlong, who taunted him about the supposed innate superiority of fish-men over humans. Arlong demonstrated his deadly shark-like attacks, which Luffy barely managed to dodge. Arlong pointed out Luffy's inability to escape the water on his own as a weakness.
In response, Luffy countered by asserting that needing help is not a sign of weakness, and it's his friends who give him the strength to overcome his obstacles. He made it clear that he would be the one to defeat Arlong. Arlong attempted to bite off Luffy's head, but Luffy skillfully removed a chunk of the pillar behind him instead. Luffy continued to taunt Arlong, and in a surprising turn of events, he delivered a powerful blow that shattered Arlong's teeth.
Arlong's teeth quickly regenerated, and he pulled them out to use as hand-held castanet weapons. When he attacked Luffy again, Luffy used one of Arlong's own crew members as a human shield to block the blow, infuriating Arlong with his perceived dirty tactics. Luffy shattered Arlong's teeth once more and took one of them as a weapon.
Arlong managed to hit Luffy in the side with his remaining weapon as Luffy retaliated by biting down on Arlong's neck with the stolen tooth. Arlong explained that the power of his bite came from the jaw muscles rather than the teeth and bit through Luffy's arm. Luffy freed himself by slamming Arlong to the ground, releasing his grip on his arm.
Arlong then took to the water, utilizing his increased speed to gain an advantage. He launched himself like a torpedo, breaking through solid objects with his rapid attacks. Luffy, however, managed to catch Arlong and delivered a devastating kick to his stomach, causing significant damage.
This brutal exchange pushed Arlong to his limit, and he underwent a transformation, with his eyes taking on the appearance of a Sea King before an attack. Recognizing that direct attacks were ineffective against Luffy, Arlong decided to use his colossal saw sword, Kiribachi, in an attempt to turn the tide of the battle.
Swinging the mighty Kiribachi in an attempt to strike Luffy, Arlong cornered Luffy in a room on the top floor of Arlong Park, where he revealed that the room was where Nami used to draw her maps. Arlong acknowledged Nami's remarkable talent and claimed that she was his friend. However, Luffy retorted by declaring that Nami was the Straw Hats' navigator.
Arlong insisted that Nami's talents were being put to better use with the Arlong Pirates, stating that she would continue drawing maps for his world domination. This infuriated Luffy, and he crushed one of the teeth from the Kiribachi, causing Arlong to hesitate.
Arlong went on to assert that Nami had everything she needed with his crew and that she would forever remain his tool or, in his twisted perspective, his "friend." In response, Luffy began destroying the room, prompting Arlong to become increasingly angry, accusing Luffy of destroying his ambitions along with the room.
Luffy made it clear that his sole purpose was to help Nami, and he couldn't allow that room to exist any longer. With the full power of his Gomu Gomu no Ono, Luffy sent Arlong's Shark On Teeth attack crashing through the entire Arlong Park building, destroying it and defeating the fish-man in the process. Arlong was left buried under the rubble as the battle concluded.
Following their defeat, Arlong and the rest of his crew were arrested by the Marines, while Hatchan was the only one who managed to escape capture. The whereabouts of the other crew members remained unknown.
Arlong’s Personality
Arlong harbors an intense and deep-seated contempt for humans, considering them inferior beings and showing no remorse in committing heinous acts, such as killing entire human towns. His preferred method of control involves manipulating people through money and deals, exemplified by his exploitation of individuals like Nami and Marine Captain Nezumi.
Arlong's love for money is well-known, and he is notorious for being exceedingly cheap. His frugality is evident in his refusal to compensate Hyouzou for his services, showcasing his reluctance to part with his wealth. He exudes confidence and fearlessness, stemming from his fish-man strength, which leads him to believe that he and his crew are virtually invincible.
He is not easily frightened and readily offers to eliminate anyone who might expose his activities. Strategic and opportunistic, Arlong is adept at identifying and exploiting talent to advance his ambitions. He spent eight years meticulously planning his conquest of the East Blue by using Nami's cartography skills.
While he generally keeps promises regarding money, he is not above exploiting loopholes in deals to achieve his goals, as seen when he had corrupt Marines confiscate Nami's earnings to keep her in his service.
Arlong's short temper is a prominent characteristic, as he can become angry quite easily. His bouts of anger can make him reckless and destructive, even if it means damaging his own headquarters and belongings. Despite his extreme beliefs, he displays a strong sense of brotherhood with his crew, genuinely caring for their well-being. His loyalty extends even to Nami, despite the species divide, and he considers her a permanent member of his crew.
However, Arlong's personality is marked by hypocrisy, as he accuses others of looking down on fish-men while promoting fish-men superiority himself. He becomes enraged when humans insult his group, revealing a double standard in his beliefs. Despite his intense hatred for humanity, he refuses to harm fellow fish-men, showcasing inconsistency in his principles.
Arlong’s Appearance
Arlong has a striking appearance with his large and muscular fish-man body, light blue skin, and a saw-shaped nose. He has long black hair, a fin on the back of his head, and prominent gills on his neck. Arlong displays the Sun Pirates tattoo on his chest and has his own Jolly Roger tattoo on his left forearm. His piercing light-blue eyes and angular jaw give him an intense look.
He typically wears a fashionable outfit, including a spotted cabana shirt, Bermuda shorts, and a purple sash. Arlong wears sandals, various jewelry, and piercings instead of traditional rings on his webbed hands.
As a Sun Pirates member, he switches to an A-shirt or a sleeveless shirt with flower-like motifs, adds a bowler hat, and wears loose pants with circular earrings. During his raid on the Conomi Islands, he wears a green scarf, dark green coat, beige Bermuda shorts with a chain pattern, and a green sash, along with a dark gray hat instead of his usual ushanka.
Arlong’s Abilities
Arlong, as the captain of the Arlong Pirates, wielded full authority over his crew, and his influence extended far beyond his crewmates. Notably, his power was acknowledged to be even greater than that of Don Krieg, the East Blue's strongest military force, a recognition that marked him as a significant threat to the entire region.
Arlong's fish-man physiology endowed him with extraordinary physical strength. He was inherently ten times stronger than a typical human, and this strength multiplied when he was submerged in water. These exceptional capabilities allowed him to perform incredible feats such as lifting houses with his bare hands and wielding powerful shark-like jaws that could crush stone, shatter metal, and rip through flesh with ease.
In battle, Arlong exhibited remarkable resilience. When faced with a barrage of powerful attacks from Monkey D. Luffy, he absorbed most of the damage with relative ease. Additionally, his pain tolerance was extraordinary, as demonstrated when he nonchalantly ripped off and rearranged his rapidly regrowing teeth and adjusted his broken nose without displaying any signs of discomfort.
When provoked and pushed to his limits, Arlong had the unique ability to enter a berserk state. In this frenzied state of anger, his eyes took on an appearance reminiscent of Sea Kings, and both his strength and speed experienced an exponential surge, rendering him an even more formidable adversary.
Arlong possessed a diverse set of unique attacks that showcased his combat prowess. Notably, "Shoryo no Mizu" allowed him to hurl water with remarkable force, equivalent to the power of a gunshot, a move he used to taunt the perceived fragility of humans in the face of even minimal water.
His body featured natural weapons, including a long, sharp nose, which he utilized effectively in combat. He also demonstrated the ability to shoot himself like a torpedo at opponents, a technique known as "Shark on Darts."
His removable massive teeth served as hand-held bear traps. These teeth had the unique property of regenerating rapidly, with each new set growing stronger than the previous. He employed various teeth-based attacks, such as "Tooth Gum," "Same no Ha" (Shark Teeth), and an enhanced version of "Shark on Darts" known as "Shark on Tooth."
In the climactic stages of his battle with Luffy, Arlong wielded his signature weapon, the Kiribachi, a massive serrated blade. With remarkable proficiency, he demonstrated the formidable cutting power of this weapon by slicing through buildings effortlessly.
Arlong’s Relationships
Arlong Pirates
Arlong genuinely cared for his crew, as evidenced by his apologies for accidentally harming them and his anger when they were hurt by outsiders. He referred to his crew as his "brethren," emphasizing the strong bond he shared with them. The crew members, in turn, addressed him with respect as "Arlong-san." This camaraderie is reminiscent of the close-knit relationships observed within Luffy's Straw Hat Pirates.
Sun Pirates
In his youth, Arlong and Jinbe, two orphans from the Fish-Man District, grew up as friends. They initially regarded each other as brothers, but their paths diverged as Arlong became a pirate while Jinbe pursued a career as a soldier. Arlong sought to maintain a friendly connection with Jinbe, but their differing views on piracy led to frequent disagreements.
Their relationship took a significant turn when Fisher Tiger, their shared hero, challenged the World Government. Arlong and Jinbe joined forces, gathering recruits from the Fish-Man District, and became members of the Sun Pirates.
However, the circumstances surrounding Arlong's departure from the Sun Pirates and his relationship with Jinbe ultimately soured. Their separation was marked by a confrontation between the two, with Arlong expressing disdain for Jinbe's affiliation with the World Government, which he perceived as an affront to Fisher Tiger's memory.
Arlong believed that Jinbe had accepted the sanction of those responsible for their former captain's death, leading him to leave the Sun Pirates with the intention of reforming the Arlong Pirates. This rift ended their friendship on negative terms.
Fisher Tiger
Arlong held Fisher Tiger in the highest regard, viewing him as both a hero and a big brother figure. Tiger's deep-rooted hatred of humans may have influenced Arlong's own perspectives. Nevertheless, Arlong and Tiger frequently clashed over their differing approaches.
Arlong advocated for the slaughter of humans they encountered to instill fear among them, whereas Tiger opposed killing, believing it would reduce them to the level of their oppressors. Upon Fisher Tiger's betrayal and death, Arlong was devastated. He sought retribution by attacking those responsible for Tiger's demise and fabricated the circumstances of Tiger's death when reporting it to the Marines, all in an effort to preserve his hero's honor and reputation.
Despite his profound respect for Tiger, Arlong found himself unable to fulfill his fallen leader's final wish for peace with humans. In fact, Tiger's death deepened Arlong's animosity towards humans, contributing to his deteriorating relationship with them. Tiger's memory was the primary reason Arlong initially remained with the Sun Pirates, but when Jinbe took control and became a Warlord of the Sea, Arlong chose to depart, further straining his connection with his former comrades.
Enemies
Marines
Arlong's status as a pirate with a substantial bounty made him a direct adversary of the Marines. He held the distinction of having the highest bounty in the East Blue until the Straw Hat Pirates gained notoriety.
Arlong's ability to keep his actions discreet by bribing the Marines implies that his official bounty did not truly capture the extent of his crimes or his actual threat level. His true power and the full scope of his atrocities might not have been accurately reflected in the bounty assigned to him.
During his tenure with the Sun Pirates, Arlong clashed with the Marines on numerous occasions. He engaged in battles against notable Marine figures, such as Rear Admiral Kadar and his crew, as well as Borsalino, who held the rank of Vice Admiral at the time. These confrontations underscored Arlong's willingness to challenge the Marines directly as part of his pirate activities.
Cocoyasi Villagers
The Cocoyasi villagers endured eight years of tyranny under Arlong's rule, and their journey from submission to rebellion reveals their resilience and determination to free themselves from his oppression. Nami, who had been coerced into working for Arlong, played a pivotal role in inspiring the villagers to finally stand up against their oppressors.
Genzo, a prominent figure among the villagers, assumed a leadership role during Arlong's occupation of the island. He ensured the safety of the villagers and coordinated efforts to meet Arlong's exorbitant tax demands.
After Nami's heartbreaking realization that her eight years of labor to save the village had crumbled due to Arlong's betrayal, the villagers decided that they had endured enough suffering. Rejecting Nami's pleas to avoid confrontation, they resolved to confront Arlong and his crew head-on, even if it meant facing certain danger.
Over time, Genzo had been devising plans of rebellion against Arlong's reign. However, these plans were discovered when the hidden weapons the villagers had prepared were uncovered. In a critical moment, Genzo narrowly escaped death, only to be rescued by Usopp, who intervened to disrupt Arlong's plans.
Nami
While he generally held deep-seated discrimination against humans, Arlong made an exception for Nami due to her exceptional navigational skills. He acknowledged her prowess and offered an apology when she expressed her weariness at hearing about fish-men's superiority over humans. Despite this respect for her abilities, Arlong mistreated Nami while she was on his crew, including locking her in a tower and neglecting her needs.
Despite the mistreatment, Arlong considered Nami as one of his "brethren" and celebrated her return to Arlong Park. He viewed her as a valued member of their group, despite the manipulation and cruelty he subjected her to.
Arlong's misjudgment of Nami's character stemmed from his materialistic ideals. He believed that Nami's happiness revolved around possessions like clothes, money, and shelter, failing to understand her deeper desires and aspirations. This misjudgment contributed to her eventual betrayal.
Throughout their interactions, Arlong maintained a complex bond with Nami. Even during his final confrontation with Luffy, he referred to Nami as his friend.
From Nami's perspective, Arlong and his crew remained her enemies for a long time due to their oppression of her village and the murder of her adoptive mother, Bell-mère. She joined the Arlong Pirates as part of her plan to liberate her village but had no genuine affection for them. Instead, she constantly sought ways to escape and plotted her eventual freedom.
Humans
Arlong held a deep-seated hatred for humans, which was a core aspect of his character. However, he made exceptions for certain humans whom he either respected or saw as useful. Notably, he respected Nami due to her exceptional navigation skills, and he also had a degree of respect for individuals who understood business, such as Nezumi.
Arlong's hatred for humanity is uncompromising, as he does not sympathize with Koala's past as a slave, showcasing his lack of empathy toward humans in general. This hatred intensified after humans betrayed Fisher Tiger, leading to Tiger's death. Arlong perceived this as a betrayal by all humans, and he sought revenge against those who had committed this act.
Koala
Arlong strongly objected to Koala's presence on the Sun Pirates' ship primarily because she was a human. His anger even led him to hit her once due to her smiling, an act he found infuriating. Initially, Arlong's crew did not readily accept Koala due to her species, and Arlong's animosity toward her played a role in this dynamic.
Family
Shyarly
Shyarly, the Madam of the Mermaid Cafe, is Arlong's younger half-sister. Although their interactions were not shown, it is known that they held differing views on humanity. Arlong harbored a deep hatred for humans, while Shyarly displayed a more accepting perspective. When they were younger, Arlong was willing to take care of Shyarly, indicating some level of familial connection.
Other
Hody Jones
Hody Jones, during his childhood, looked up to Arlong and was influenced by his teachings. Arlong preached to Hody and his friends about fish-men's superiority over humans, cultivating a deep-seated hatred of humans in them. Arlong's influence played a significant role in shaping Hody's mindset and beliefs.
However, as Hody grew up, he distanced himself from Arlong and his crew. He began gathering strength on Fish-Man Island with the goal of becoming Arlong's right-hand man but dismissed Arlong as a barbarian and the "Arlong Pirates" as an empty symbol for the unity of fish-men who hate humans.
